BurdaStyle: vintage dress

by - 23:26

Anytime I see a lovely printed cotton I try to buy at least 2 meters. Why 2 metres? Because that's the least amount of material I need for a dress with a full circle skirt. This fabric wasn't an exception, and the BurdaStyle pattern was the perfect choice for it.

Last week was a pretty busy one which is quite surprising for a housewife, isn't it. We had to go to some places in the daytime and it was the perfect opportunity for me to wear my new vintage BurdaStyle.com dress. Even though I do bake and sew retro style dresses most of the time, I'm not a typical 50s housewife. I still don't wear all my best garments along with the red lipstick and flawless hairdo to the supermarket... At least yet. But I do wear my best clothes to places like a Town hall.

As for this dress, it was almost ready and I did my best to finish it just in time for the next day.

It's a BurdaStyle.com vintage dress 1/2015 #126.  Unfortunately, it's not available for download yet.

I used only the bodice from it. Skirt is a basic full circle one that I drafted myself.

I changed the back piece a little bit and located the zip in the central back seam.

I've read some reviews on that pattern that were saying that the neckline doesn't fit perfectly. It was true in my case, but it wasn't difficult to fix that small problem.

After the first fitting I wasn't sure if I like those sleeves or not, but I've changed my mind when the dress was completed. I think they add a lovely retro charm.
